Dr. Frieman’s laboratory focuses on emerging coronaviruses including SARS-CoV, MERS-CoV and SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) (https://www.medschool.umaryland.edu/profiles/Frieman-Matthew/). His lab has developed in vitro and in vivo models of coronavirus pathogenesis to both understand more about the viruses as well as aid in therapeutic development. For SARS-CoV-2, they are focusing on repurposing FDA approved drugs, monoclonal antibody therapies and novel vaccine platforms.
