Bacillus anthracis: of Mice, Men, and Tall Fescue
Presented by: Dr. Theresa M. Koehler, PhD
Chair Emerita of the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics at McGovern Medical School, University of Texas-Houston, and 2024-2025 President of the American Society for Microbiology
Dr. Koehler is an internationally recognized anthrax expert whose NIH-funded research program on Bacillus anthracis spanned more than 30 years. In addition to participation in numerous scientific organizations (AAAS, AAM, etc.), she served on advisory boards for state and federal science committees, including the National Science Advisory Board for Biosecurity. Her presentation will include diverse aspects of this intriguing bacterium, including disease history, pathogenesis, host-pathogen signaling, and lifestyle in the soil.
