The American Society for Microbiology, Maryland Branch Ltd. (ASM MD) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, non-stock corporation organized and governed by microbiologists to promote the field of microbiology within the State of Maryland.  It is a professional organization that holds 4-5 dinner meetings per year in the Baltimore metropolitan area, featuring presentations by invited speakers.  These meetings serve to encourage interest in and further the education of the public, students, and the ASM MD membership with respect to the current state of the field of microbiology.  They also offer opportunities for networking, presentation and discussion of research activities, discoveries, and current events pertaining to microbiology and related subjects.  Maryland is a hotbed of industrial, clinical, academic and government microbiology and biotechnology institutions and activity.  The ASM MD membership reflects the many facets of this rich and diverse scientific community.  In addition to dinner-meetings, ASM MD also gives out several awards each year to distinguished Maryland microbiologists as well as exceptional students whose work embodies the ideals of the profession.  Student members receive discounted registration at the meetings.  The organization is supported by annual dues from its members and grants from the American Society for Microbiology, our national organization.  The ASM MD accepts private and corporate sponsorship of our meetings and/or awards.  A sponsorship structure is presented in the table below.  Sponsorship may be customized, if desired, such as sponsoring one of the ASM MD's awards.​
